MOROCCO DESERT TRIP

A MAGICAL PRIVATE TRIP TO THE MERZOUGA SAHARA DUNES

No trip to Morocco is complete without packing and heading south after crossing The High Atlas Mountains to this magical part: Morocco without its Sahara is like a body without Soul.

While The High Atlas Mountains are making a stunning geographical barrier between green north and dry south, they are inhabited by Berbers who managed to deal with both its cold chilly climate and the complication of its rock formation building these beautiful mud villages to accommodate them and shaping terraces to make plots of fields for their traditional farming.

Once crossing the mountains the desert is on the door welcoming any visitor with beauty, silence and both charm and hospitality. Here in this majestic land: nomads, Arabs, Berbers, pre-Saharan people, jews and Touareg all settled and lived here for centuries and hand in hand they left this unique heritage of culture, craft, the marriage of blood and architecture: Welcome to The Kingdom Of Light!

Camel Ride in The Moroccan Desert

Meet the blue Men & be lead to admire the sunset

For long Morocco have been on the Trans-Saharan routes. Caravans from Timbuktu and neighboring vast lands end up in Mogador, current Essaouira, where European Traders awaits them with their ships to get their Salt, Spices, dry fruits, animal skins, gold, ivory and more to take it to Europe and their colonies around the globe.

Trading with Caravans flourished when Arabs from The golf peninsula settled in North Africa starting from the 7th century. In the 11th 12th and 15, 16 century it was a golden age as The Moroccan Empire controlled Timbuktu, most North Africa, and Andalusia.

The Blue Men are clearly seen in South of Morocco. They are handlers of camels and nomads who live in the vast arid desert. They are the Lawrence of The Sahara and have a mixed blood African, Arab and Berber.

RICH HISTORY

The KSAR: MUD Palace in The Tafilallet Oasis

This mud village refers to 17th centuries structures of traditional palaces built by the first Alaouite Kings and sons for each one of their wives.

These beautiful buildings are facing evacuation caused by migration due to shortage or rainfall, desertification and the dam built on the slope of the mountains to generate electricity hydroelectric for the population of the whole region, supply with fresh water and for the irrigation of close by farms.

Now, these likely ruins are inhabited mostly by old people & young children resisting the hard nature and the dereliction if not the inattention of a whole system.
